What’s an event?
An event is a single alert from your monitoring system — one HTTP POST to Culprit’s webhook saying “this thing fired.” When Prometheus AlertManager, Datadog, PagerDuty, or a custom script signals that something needs attention, that’s one event.
Events are not log lines, metric data points, or trace spans. Those stay in your existing observability stack (Splunk, Loki, Prometheus, Datadog Logs, Jaeger, etc.) — Culprit consumes the output of that stack, the alerts it decides are worth waking someone up about.
Example: A typical microservice emits 10M+ log lines/month and 100k+ metric data points/month, but produces only ~500 alert events/month. Only the alert events count.
How much is unlimited? The plan envelope comfortably covers what realistic production systems actually emit. The practical fair-use threshold is around 500,000 events per service per month on a sustained basis; accounts that exceed it graduate to Enterprise terms (per ToS §4.4) rather than incurring surprise charges or being throttled. Truly extreme volume is an Enterprise conversation; everything below it is just “your plan.”
